GHEs - Guidelines for Healthy Eating | Sunday Steep Series

September 15, 2024 @ 2:00 pm

Embrace the Ayurvedic approach to nutrition, where mindful eating habits nourish not only the body but also cultivate vitality and longevity.

Join Madeline Armstrong and Stephenie Going in a workshop to learn about Ayurveda’s Guidelines to Healthy Eating.

In this workshop, you’ll learn…

  • Eating mindfully helps maintain and strengthen the digestive fire, which is crucial for breaking down food and absorbing nutrients. When you eat with awareness, your body is better prepared to digest food efficiently, preventing the formation of toxins.

  • Ayurveda recognizes the connection between food and emotions. Eating mindfully allows you to savor and enjoy your meals, which can have a calming effect on the mind. This practice helps balance the emotional body, reducing stress and anxiety.

  • Mindful eating allows you to be more in tune with your body's natural rhythms, such as the time of day when digestion is strongest (midday). This alignment with natural cycles supports optimal digestion and overall health.

  • And more!

AYURVEDA with Stephenie Going

Ayurveda concentrates on prevention through understanding one’s own makeup and the effects that the outer world, environment, diet, and lifestyle choices make on our constitution and our daily lives. Our goal is to attain optimal health through a deeper understanding of ourselves and our own particular nature in relationship to the world around us. Ayurveda is a system based on natural healing through strengthening one’s own body, mind, and spirit and allowing the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to work to their fullest.

We'll explore Ayurveda's general recommendations for nutrition during the summer season. Each season ushers in a unique set of qualities that can either pacify or aggravate the inner workings of your being. By adapting your diet and lifestyle to better accommodate the changing seasons, you can drastically reduce the likelihood of any seasonally induced imbalances and the same strategies will gently coax your body back toward its natural state of equilibrium.

Together we will ...

  • learn Ayurveda's core concepts about summer and nutrition,

  • discover how your unique constitution interacts with the season,

  • create herbal infusions to use at home in your own kitchen, and

  • gather the tools and information to create a support system for empowerment of your own healthy practice.

INK MAKING with Molly Holmlund

Molly is an artist fascinated by the process of hand making inks. Her work reveals a closer look into the multiple connections in nature, through extracting and applying color from plants and minerals.

The use of natural materials creates a unique alchemy in the inks, allowing a different way of mixing and layering than traditional paints. This brings a sense of collaborating with the material, all while letting nature speak for itself.

THE TROUT LAKE ABBEY

The Abbey is the product of a 20-year friendship between a Zen Buddhist monk and a Druid priest. Ven. Thay Kozen and Rev. Kirk Thomas initially created this dynamic 23 acre sanctuary as a home for their two faiths and a place for people of all beliefs to find peace. The land was originally a farm, and while their flower gardens and landscaping embellish the sacred spaces, they continue this relationship to the soil as a WSDA certified organic producer. Their mission is to support the well-being of all living things and provide a space for people to explore whatever spiritual path to which they are drawn.
